Many thanks to all artists and participants who helped make SITUATIONAL AWARENESS both an amazing experience as well as a fundraising success. With your help we were able to raise a total of nearly $900, which was split between the Moveon.org PAC and the Adbusters Media Foundation in order to help them further their missions. We look forward to seeing all of you for another edition of SITUATIONAL AWARENESS and would like to thank you again for your support in 2004. Perceptioncollective.org invites you to participate in a benefit for the Adbusters Media Foundation and Moveon.org's Political Action Committee on Saturday August 28 from 5 pm to 2 am at Inshallah Gallery, 244 S. Main St. in Downtown LA. We will be showcasing conscious visual, performance, audio, and literary artists in an effort to increase awareness of current political and social trends. However, we are not content to only draw attention; we hope to start a dialogue that will be a catalyst for action against systems of oppression, disenfranchisement, and aggression. Based on the belief that analysis and critical examination form the backbone of any functioning society, we are looking for progressive partners to help us raise awareness through creative commentary.
We hope to force America to confront the fact that the only vote which matters any more in our capitalistic society is the vote of the dollar. The federal government is simply a board of advisors to america, Inc.; many of its employees are merely slaves to special interests, lobbying conglomerates and the investment banking community. It is time that our leaders actually listen to their constituents. It is time to be a real patriot and stand up against the erosion of civil liberties. It is time to question the validity and candidness of corporate-owned media. As Zach de la Roacha famously said, its time to take the power back.
Suggested donation is $20 for this fundraiser; nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
Much of the art will be made available for sale, proceeds to be contributed to our Adbusters and Moveon.org benefit fund.
